Darien Police Officers Visit Our Lady of Peace School

Officer Jump and Officer Williams visited students at Our Lady of Peace School this Friday

The Darien Police Department has always done a fantastic job of keeping the families at Our Lady of Peace safe. Whether it be directing traffic during Mass times, monitoring the busy streets to keep our school children safe during recess, or responding to the rare call for assistance, the Darien Police are always there when needed. The police officers in our community are there for us even when we haven't called them for a specific reason.

About every two weeks or so, Our Lady of Peace is visited by one of the officers on duty. We have had visits during lunchtime, officers checking up on the kids during recess, and some just walk our hallways during the school day. These visits are greatly appreciated by the children and families of Our Lady of Peace School. It's such a nice reminder to see that we always have someone watching out for us. The students are able to meet the officers who do so much good for us and it develops a great sense of community. The police benefit from these visits by getting to know both the school grounds and the people who work and learn here.

On Friday, the students got a special visit from Officer Jump and Officer Williams. They visited a few of the classrooms and answered questions that some of the children had. Children wondered what all the "stuff" on their belts was for and were informed that they were tools to help keep them and their families safe. Another student asked what the officers did when they weren't out patrolling. The officers informed the students that they did paperwork -- much like the homework that students do! Officer Williams showed the third grade class how his impressive flashlight was used. It was bright even in the middle of the day in a lit classroom! Officer Jump took time to answer questions from the fourth grade which was being led by Teacher of the Day Angelina M.

The students, staff, and families at Our Lady of Peace School are so grateful for our local police and were so happy a couple of the officers were able to stay and visit a bit. We pray that they stay safe and thank them for all they do!
