Darien Residents Mistakenly Billed By Trash Firm: City

The city also said the garbage company was taking carts early.

DARIEN, IL – Darien's outgoing trash provider mistakenly billed residents for the next quarter, starting April 1, the city said Wednesday.

The city said Houston-based Waste Management had an error in its billing system. The company's contract ends next Thursday.

Last fall, the city chose Morton Grove-based LRS over Waste Management. The LRS contract begins April 1.

In a couple of instances, residents were not delinquent in their bills, City Administrator Bryon Vana told the City Council this week.

"(Waste Management) agreed to hold off taking any containers," Vana said. "I was surprised they did that with a couple of weeks left. I was hoping that was a one-day situation. It shouldn't be happening anymore."
