Darien Seeks Citizen Of The year

Citizen of the Year must have made voluntary contributions to the community.

DARIEN, IL — The Citizen of the Year Committee is searching for a person who has given of themselves to make Darien a better place to live. Residents are encouraged to nominate those who go above and beyond, are always there when someone needs a hand and who have contributed to Darien.

By city ordinance, the citizen of the year shall have made some outstanding voluntary contributions to the city. Criteria to be considered shall include diversity of activities, length of service, degree of involvement in the community and impact to the city. A nominee also must be a resident of Darien and cannot currently be an elected official. The deadline for nominations to be considered for the current year is 5 p.m. Jan. 6.

Members of the Citizen of the Year committee are Bonnie Kucera (chairwoman), Linda Borowiak, Ralph Beardsley, James Goetzinger, Ron Kiefer, Gerald Kucera and Carol Mallers. Mary Sullivan is the City Council liaison.
