Darien Sees Most Virus Cases In 7 Months: County

DARIEN, IL — Darien saw the most weekly coronavirus cases since April, according to the latest numbers from the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, Darien had seen 2,137 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 34 in the last week. The week before last, the city experienced 27 new cases.

The city's number of coronavirus deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 25. The deaths work out to about a thousandth of Darien's population.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, Darien had 97 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, better than its neighbors. The figure compares to 112 in DuPage County, 113 in Hinsdale, 115 in Elmhurst and La Grange Park, 121 in Clarendon Hills and La Grange, and 125 in Western Springs and suburban Cook County.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,763,866, a 1.3 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 26,227.

Nationally, 46.6 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 1.4 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 770,461 people have died from the virus in the United States.
