Darien Store Burglary, DUI Arrest: Cops

The store was broken into early in the morning, with the front glass door shattered, police say.

DARIEN, IL — Last week, Darien police handled a variety of cases, including a store burglary, a DUI, retail theft, porch piracy and driving violations. Here is information from the latest Darien police reports:

Store burglary

  • The T-Mobile store, 7511 Lemont Road, was burglarized about 3:30 a.m. Saturday. The suspects entered by breaking the front glass door with an unknown object.

DUI

  • Michael Serpico, 39, of Harwood Heights, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of any drug or combination of drugs. He was released and given a date to appear in court. Darien police were dispatched because of a report of a man slumped behind the wheel of a running car, according to a police report.

Retail theft

  • A man wearing a black mask requested a Juul menthol four-pack, which is for e-cigarettes, about 12:30 a.m. Friday at Speedway, 10250 Lemont Road. The clerk told police that the man left the store without paying for the item. The loss was about $19.

  • A package was stolen Jan. 11 in the 1000 block of Hinswood Drive. The victim told police he received a notification at 10:37 a.m. that the package was delivered in the mailbox. A few minutes after the notification, the victim said he went to retrieve the package, but it was not there.
  • A package delivered Jan. 1 was stolen in the 1100 block of Chalet Drive. The package was placed in the foyer of an apartment building. It was taken between 1 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.

Damage

  • An officer saw a stop sign on the ground in the eastbound lane of 71st Street at Clarendon Hills Road about 10 a.m. Sunday. It appeared that a car slid on the snow-covered road, went up on the curb and hit the sign.

Warrants and driving violations

  • David Sarpong, 18, of Downers Grove, was arrested about 2 p.m. Jan. 11 on Lemont Road near Woodmere Drive on a warrant charging failure to appear in court. He was released and given a date to appear in court. He was also cited by Darien police on a charge of speeding. He was traveling 59 mph in a 40 mph zone.
  • Brittney Moody, 33, of Romeoville, was cited about 8 a.m. Jan. 12 at Mt. Carmel Church, 8404 Cass Ave., on charges of driving with a suspended license and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. She was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Cleveland Ollie, 28, of Woodridge, was cited about 10:30 p.m. Jan. 13 in the 7800 block of Lemont Road on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. He as clocked going 57 mph in a 40 mph zone. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Jimmy Mojica, 19, of Willowbrook, was arrested about 9 p.m. Saturday on a DuPage County warrant charging failure to appear in court.
