Darien Suspect Steals $768 In Merchandise: Cops

He was sent to jail because he had other active cases, police said.

DARIEN, IL – Darien police released their latest blotter Thursday. Here is information from the reports:

Retail theft

  • Jason Sraka, 28, of Westmont, was arrested about 1 p.m. Monday at Walmart, 2189 75th St., on a felony retail theft charge. Police said the man left the store with a cart of $768 in merchandise without paying for it. He headed to a white camper. Officers stopped the vehicle. DuPage County prosecutors said he had active cases, so he could not be released. He was taken to the county jail.
  • A 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both of Downers Grove, and a 31-year-old Chicago woman were arrested about 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Walmart, 2189 75th St., on retail theft charges. Surveillance video showed the trio under-scanning 11 items totaling $101 at the self-checkout counter. They were released and given dates to appear in court.
  • A 25-year-old Downers Grove woman was arrested about 5 p.m. Friday at Walmart, 2189 75th St., on a retail theft charge. Store video showed the woman failing to scan 18 items totaling $284 at the self-checkout counter.

DUI

  • A 52-year-old Darien man who lives in the 7900 block of Knottingham Circle was arrested about 4:30 a.m. Saturday on a DUI charge. Police said they were called about a car striking a shrub in the parking lot at Dunkin' Donuts, 7532 Cass Ave. The driver was stumbling a lot, police said. The man was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • A 48-year-old Orland Park woman was arrested about 4 a.m. Sunday on charges of DUI and stopping in the roadway. Police said they were called to 87th Street and Lemont Road for a well-being check. The woman was stopped in traffic just west of the intersection, sleeping behind the wheel. A witness said the car had not moved through several traffic light cycles, but the brake lights were on. The woman was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • A 33-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Oct. 24 on charges of DUI and speeding. Police said the man was driving a car with a Florida registration east on 75th Street approaching Clarendon Hills Road. The man was clocked at 63 mph in a 45 mph zone. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
