Darien Virus Cases Up 10% In Last Week: County
The city sees two more coronavirus-related deaths in the last week.
DARIEN, IL — For the second week in a row, Darien saw a 10 percent increase in its coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the DuPage County Health Department.
As of Sunday, Darien had seen 1,052 cases. That works out to 4.4 percent of Darien's population.
The number of local deaths from the coronavirus increased by two from the previous week, totaling 14. That's up by five in the last two weeks. That works out to less than a thousandth of a percent of Darien's population.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

Darien's rate of increase of 10 percent was the same as DuPage County's hike in the last week. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population, but only 2 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.
As of Sunday, Darien had 48.6 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 43.7 in La Grange Park, 50.1 in Hinsdale, 50.3 in Western Springs, 56.3 in Clarendon Hills, 57.2 in Elmhurst, 57.4 in DuPage County, 61.8 in suburban Cook County, 62.5 in Burr Ridge and 67.9 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 848,904, up 7.8 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 14,291 state residents.
Nationally, 15.9 million people have caught the virus, up 10 percent from the week before. A total of 296,818 people have died from the virus in the United States.
