Darien's Rate of Growth In Virus Cases Picks Up
Nine more coronavirus cases seen in Darien in last week.
DARIEN, IL — Darien has seen a slight uptick in coronavirus cases. As of Sunday, the community saw nine more cases over the last week, increasing to 125, from 116 a week earlier, according to DuPage County Health Department figures. The increase was a bit larger than the two previous weeks.

Darien's increase last week, which amounted to 8 percent, was higher than DuPage County's 4 percent. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population and 1.4 percent of the coronavirus cases.

As of Sunday, Darien had 5.8 coronavirus cases per thousand people. That compares to 3.3 in Western Springs, 5.4 in Clarendon Hills, 5.6 in Elmhurst, 5.9 in La Grange Park, 8.6 in Burr Ridge, 9.1 in DuPage County, 10.3 in Hinsdale and 12.1 in La Grange.
In DuPage County, Addison is leading the pack with 793 cases, or 21.7 per thousand, according to the health department. West Chicago follows with 746 cases, or 25.9 per thousand.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 132,543, up 4 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 6,308 state residents.
Nationally, 2.2 million people have caught the virus and 117,859 have died from it.
