Anyway you define it, the Mustang Boys Varsity tennis Team (21-3, 7-0) lived perfection over the two-day IHSA Sectional Tournament at York High School this past weekend. After dominating their conference tournament last weekend, they scored a perfect 36 points for the first time in school history. In fact, the Mustangs scored enough points on Friday night put the title on ice. Then on Saturday, the Mustangs made it official as they won their fourth straight IHSA Sectional Title while qualifying all six players for the State Meet for the fourth consecutive year. Perfection!
In the singles championship match, senior captain Joey Leto repeated as Sectional Champion defeating little brother, freshman Tony Leto, in a friendly family feud 6-2, 6-1. In doubles, senior captain Connor Harmon and his partner junior captain Cody Freischlag won a hotly contested doubles final over teammates senior captain Kiernan Cavanagh and junior Jon Artus 7-6 (4), 6-2. This marked the first time that all four sectional spots in the finals were occupied by the Mustangs. Perfect! Next up for the red hot Mustangs is the IHSA State Tournament next week. It was a perfect day to be a Mustang!
