DUI Crash, Thefts At Walmart: Darien Police
Car ends up in driveway after skidding off road, police say. The driver is accused of DUI.
DARIEN, IL — Over the last week, Darien police responded to a DUI crash on Lakeview Drive and thefts at Walmart, among other things. Here is information from the Darien Police Department's latest blotter:
- Police responded to a crash in the 1700 block of Lakeview Drive and saw a car that had sustained heavy damage shortly after 2 a.m. Dec. 26. Skid marks went from Lakeview, onto a curb and through bushes before ending on the driveway of a house. That's where the car driven by Tomas Tarankus, 42, of Tinley Park, finally stopped. He was charged with DUI, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage, and driving too fast for conditions. He was given a date of Jan. 21 to appear in the DuPage County Courthouse.
- A package was stolen from a front porch Dec. 27 in the 1100 block of Plainfield Road. The victim stated he was informed the package had arrived shortly after noon. He arrived at 2 p.m., and the package was missing. The loss was $35.
- Steve Wilson, 31, of Chicago, was arrested about 3:30 p.m. Dec. 28 at Walmart, 2189 75th St., on a charge of retail theft. An employee saw Wilson concealing items in a large backpack and on his body. The items were worth $266. Wilson was given a date of Feb. 4 to appear in court.
- A woman left her iPhone 7 on top of her purse in the child seating area in Walmart, 2189 75th St., about 1:30 p.m. Dec. 30. When she went to the checkout counter, she realized her phone was missing. The loss was estimated at $850.
