DuPage County Encourages Residents to Take Stormwater Survey

DuPage County Stormwater Management is encouraging residents and business owners to complete a brief survey regarding water quality in the County’s waterways.

“Our goal is to make sure DuPage’s rivers and streams support both aquatic life and recreational uses,” said DuPage County Stormwater Management Committee Chairman Jim Zay. “In order to accomplish this, we are looking for community input on ways we can best protect our natural resources.”

DuPage County is conducting the survey to measure public awareness of stormwater runoff and its effect on local waterways. A similar survey conducted last year revealed DuPage residents place high priority on water quality, which prompted the County to create a year-long educational campaign to inform residents on ways to reduce pollution in local waterways.

“Respondents from last year indicated that healthy rivers and streams were high priorities for them, so we used that information to create seasonal, easy to understand publications showing them how they could have a hand in protecting our waterways,” added Chairman Zay.

In addition to publications, DuPage County launched a social media campaign, a monthly e-newsletter and several new workshops to reach residents and business owners. The County will use this year’s responses to tailor or improve its water quality education programs.
