Downers Grove South Madrigal Singers to Preview Performance Planned for All-State Conference Event
The Downers Grove South Madrigal Singers are headed to the prestigious Illinois Music Educators' Association All-State Conference in Peoria to perform on January 28. Before the students depart, they will share their repertoire with the public at a special "IMEA Preview" concert on Tuesday, January 18 at 7 p.m., at the Downers Grove South High School Auditorium. Admission is free.
In addition to the Madrigal Singers, the concert will feature the Lakeview Junior High School Symphonic band from Downers Grove, which has also been selected to perform at the IMEA All-State Conference. The concert will showcase some of the finest student sounds from our community in both band and choir.
The Madrigal Singers submitted an audition tape and after a highly competitive process with vocal groups throughout the state, in October they were selected to perform at the IMEA All-State Conference. South High School Director Laura Coster leads the group. Joy Belt-Roselieb and collaborative pianist Belford Hernandez also have worked extensively with the students in this ensemble. The singers have been working hard to prepare a rigorous and diverse program, and have been working with multiple guest conductors.
"Being selected to perform at a state convention is a pinnacle performance venue for any ensemble," says South High School Fine Arts Department Chair Glenn Williams. "This will definitely be a highlight memory for every student performer."
