Extreme Cold In Darien: What's Closed
Several libraries, refuse services and schools have announced closures due to the cold.

DARIEN, IL — Schools, services and other organizations will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 30 due to the historic and dangerous cold moving into the area. Some of the coldest temperatures will be Tuesday night and Wednesday night, when temps will be -20 to -30, the National Weather Service said. On Wednesday, temperatures will remain below zero and will struggle to get above zero on Thursday as well.
As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, schools who have announced closures for Wednesday, Jan. 30 are:
- District 61
- District 86 (Hinsdale Township High Schools)
- Kingswood Academy
- First Step Preschool at Darien Park District
The Indian Prairie Public Library will be closing early at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and will be closed all day Wednesday. Refuse and recycling pick-up is also canceled on Wednesday, Jan. 30 and Thursday, Jan. 31. Advanced Disposal has requested all residents who have pickups on Wednesday - Friday put their garbage/recycling out after 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31. Your garbage will be picked up on either Friday, Feb. 1 or Saturday, Feb. 2.
