Forty-Degree Temperatures Highlight the Weekend Weather

Chicagoland residents can expect a small reprieve this weekend from the extreme winter weather that came in with the new year.

Friday in Darien should be mostly sunny with temperatures around 33 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to fall to about 24 degrees by 8p.m. but then rise again to about 32 for the rest of the night. Patches of fog may roll in around 3 a.m. Saturday.

Those 40-degree temperatures are forecast for Saturday, with mostly cloudy skies and a high of 41, the NWS reported. Wind gusts could get up to 30 mph.

Saturday’s mild temperatures are predicted to change quickly Saturday night as a cold front brings a colder airmass back to the area, according to the NWS. Saturday night should be mostly cloudy with a low around 29 degrees and a 20 percent chance of snow showers.

Drier, warmer weather is predicted for early next week, though there’s a chance the area could see some midweek snow as a colder airmass comes to stay, the NWS reported.

Sunday predictions show partly sunny skies with a high around 34 degrees, and Sunday night should be mostly cloudy with a low of about 21 degrees.

Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, should have a high around 33 degrees, and the low Monday night is forecast for 22 degrees and mostly cloudy skies.

• Tonight: Patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a temperature falling to near 24 by 8pm, then rising to around 32 during the remainder of the night. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
• Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. South southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
• Saturday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
• Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 34. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
• Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21.
