Gun Charge For Woman In Darien Incident: Cops

Woman drives away from officers and faces charges involving an accident, police said.

DARIEN, IL — A woman who tried to get away from Darien police officers ended up facing a gun charges, among others, according to a report.

About 11 a.m. Dec. 1, officers stopped a car driven by Demarius Valentine, 20, of Naperville, and charged him with no valid driver's license, according to a police report.

While police were handling Valentine, his passenger, Laisha Zabala, 19, of Aurora, took control of the car and drove away, the report said. She was stopped.

Police charged Zabala with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, disobeying a traffic control signal, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and resisting a police officer.

Valentine was released and given a date to appear in court. Zabala was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
