Here's How South And Central Compare To Other Schools

Central generally outperforms others. In one category, South exceeds Central.

DARIEN, IL — Recent data show how Hinsdale Central and South high schools compare to other area high schools, including Downers Grove South and North.

The information comes from the Illinois Report Card website, which is compiled by the State Board of Education.

High schools in higher-income areas tend to do better than their lower-income counterparts. Of the seven surveyed high schools, Hinsdale Central has the lowest rate of low-income students, at 6 percent. Hinsdale South is at 24 percent.

According to the data, 51 percent of students at South take early college courses, slightly higher than Central's 50 percent. York High School in Elmhurst ranks highest among the surveyed schools in that category, at 59 percent.

The differences between South and Central have long been an issue in the school district, with South families saying they have been shorted course offerings.
