Hinsdale Central Student Wins Sixth District Congressional Art Competition

Ruoqi Wei was chosen as the overall Sixth District winner for her work "Lead the Way."

Wednesday night, Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) hosted local high school artists in his West Chicago office for the 2015 Congressional Art Competition reception. From the field of 50 entrants from 13 high schools across the district, three students were recognized for their outstanding artistic talent by an independent local judge.

Hinsdale Central High School junior Ruoqi Wei was chosen as the overall Sixth District winner for her work “Lead the Way.” Wei will receive two roundtrip tickets to Washington, D.C. to attend a national reception and have her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year. Two Merit Winners, Huiran Zhang from the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy and Alyssa Carbonara from St. Francis High School, will have their artwork displayed in Roskam’s West Chicago office for a year.

“I want to thank all the talented students who participated in the 2015 Congressional Art Competition,” saidCongressman Roskam. “This year was a particularly competitive field with many exceptional submissions demonstrating the boundless creativity of young artists in the Sixth District. I’d like to especially congratulate our first place winner, Ruoqi, who I look forward to welcoming to the U.S. Capitol, and our runner-ups, Huiran and Alyssa.”
