Ms. Milas is one of 25 art teachers selected from all over the country to participate in the six-month program. The group will meet for a five-day intensive experience at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Ark., and then continue the program with online learning modules. All participants must complete a final capstone project by mid-December. This inaugural 2015 class will be recognized and celebrated during the 2016 NAEA national convention in Chicago next March.

“I hope to gain what all participants of this program desire; a way of using the unique skill set of artists in schools to change the lives of students,” said Ms. Milas. “I know that teacher leaders are best when they are continuously learning and this program provides a rich experience to grow. Ultimately, I want to use this opportunity to enrich my work with student leaders.”
