DARIEN, IL – Since 2021, just one of the seven Hinsdale High School District 86 board members has hailed from the Hinsdale South area.

That number increased to two on Thursday.

At a meeting, the board voted for Dr. Abed Rahman to replace Debbie Levinthal, who resigned in frustration last month.

He has served as the director of pain services at City of Hope Chicago, formerly Cancer Treatment Centers of America, since 2017.

He is also an adjunct professor of anatomy and anesthesiology at Rush University Medical College in Chicago and Midwestern University School of Medicine in Downers Grove.

"I look forward to working collaboratively with my fellow board members to make a positive impact on the continued success of our students and district," Rahman said in a statement.

Rahman was among 17 applicants for the board position.

The board said it interviewed five people in person, choosing to hold those exchanges behind closed doors last week.

In that closed session, the board apparently decided to go with Rahman. Minutes after he was voted in Thursday, the district issued a full news release about him.

Shortly after Rahman joined the board, member Kay Gallo resigned, saying she had no faith in the board's leadership.
