Hinsdale South Pressed On Off-Campus Lunch
A student leader says an overwhelming majority of students favor such an option for seniors.

HINSDALE, IL – A student leader at Hinsdale South High School is advocating for allowing seniors to have lunch off campus.
Senior Madeline LaPointe plans to present the request to the Hinsdale High School District 86 board on Thursday.
The proposal is part of LaPointe's written report to the board. It was released as part of the board's meeting agenda.

"Many 12th grade students would appreciate the opportunity of going off campus for lunch," LaPointe, South's student liaison to the board, said in her report. "This is something a number of my classmates have repeatedly expressed to me."
She said 95 percent of surveyed students said they would go off campus for lunch if given permission to do so.

And LaPointe said 82 percent of them indicated they backed a behavioral requirement for off-campus lunch. That, she said, would motivate students to follow school guidelines more closely.
"We know that South's leaders are working to address your concerns and intend to bring the issue forward soon," LaPointe said.
Last month, a district official acknowledged that the South lunchroom was "a little tight" during one period. But he explained why he believed that situation would ease up.
