Lakeview Students Tell Story of Chicago at History Fair

Students spent months researching and developing projects about Chicago and Illinois history that were presented Friday during a History Fair.

The following was submitted by seventh-grad social studies teacher Jacob Little:

The History Fair is a presentation of student projects based on Chicago and Illinois History. Lakeview students have learned thorough research skills through the use of database research, visiting libraries, using resources such as the Chicago History Museum and even interviewing experts on particular topics. With the collected research, students have analyzed and studied the significance of their topics. Their projects “tell the story” of why their topic is important.

This Fair has required a great deal of work and research by our students. Students began exploring Chicago and Illinois history in October, deciding which topic to center their research around. Every Friday was “History Fair Friday,” and students worked on their research projects and explored their topics. Students began their research in January, and their analysis and work culminates with this History Fair.

Lakeview’s History Fair is a part of a network of student research fairs. The best projects will demonstrate divergent thinking, an original analysis and interpretation of their historical event, and depth of knowledge on the subject. The best Lakeview Projects will be honored with participation in the Chicago Metro History Fair at DePaul University on April 21st. A select few will then be chosen to participate in the Illinois History Fair in Springfield this May.
