Learn Local History, Tour St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery In Darien

The cemetery walk will take place Saturday, Sept. 16.

DARIEN, IL — Those who are looking to learn more about local history can listen and participate in the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery Walk. St. John Lutheran Church Trustees and the Darien Historical Society will sponsor a tour of the church's cemetery located at Clarendon Hills Road and 67th Street in Darien. The event will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16.

According to the city newsletter, 12 grave sites will be visited with first person narrators in period costume. Three individuals laid to rest in Cass Cemetery will also be highlighted. Participants will learn about the life of early church members, their families and their contributions to local history.

There will also be a Civil War reenactment to acknowledge the nine Civil War veterans buried in the cemetery.

An old-fashioned pie sale will also be held. According to the newsletter, there is no charge for this event, but donations can further the work of the Darien Historical Society and assist with cemetery preservation. For more information, visit St. John Lutheran Church's website.
