Man With Gun Strikes Darien Cop: Police

He was charged with aggravated battery, among other offenses, authorities said.

DARIEN, IL – A man with a gun struck a Darien police officer Saturday as he was being arrested, authorities said.

Stephen Nichols, 42, of Indian Head Park, was charged with aggravated battery, assault and resisting a police officer, police said. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Police said they responded to a report of a man with a gun about 8 a.m. Saturday at Speedway gas station, 7502 Cass Ave. During the investigation, Nichols hit the officer who was trying to arrest him, police said.
