Man Harasses Woman At Darien Walmart, Then Damages Her Car: Cops

In another case, a woman crashes near a school and then drives away, authorities said.

DARIEN, IL – Darien police reports show that officers have handled cases involving criminal property damage, drunk driving, a hit-and-run crash, domestic battery and theft. Here is information from Darien police reports:

Walmart incident

  • A 34-year-old Akron, Ohio, man was arrested March 19 on a criminal property damage charge. About 1 p.m. that day, a woman told police that she had just parked her car at Darien's Walmart when a man approached her, accusing her of hitting his car. After an argument, the man told the woman to leave. The woman went into the store. Upon returning, the woman noticed fresh scratches on the driver's side of her car. The man was no longer there. Video footage captured the incident. With the man's license plate number, officers found him. He was released.

DUI, hit-and-run

  • A 70-year-old Downers Grove woman was arrested about 9 p.m. March 13 on charges of DUI, improper lane usage, failure to report an accident to police and driving the wrong way. Police said they were called to a crash near Elizabeth Ide Elementary School, 2000 Manning Road. The woman crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic, sideswiped a car and drove away, police said. Through a dashboard camera, police identified the license plate number of the woman's car. The woman was given a court date and released.

Domestic battery

  • A 29-year-old Darien woman who lives in the 6900 block of Clarendon Hills Road was arrested about 6:30 p.m. March 15 on a domestic battery warrant. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

  • An officer saw a woman steal a cardboard box from the AmVets donation bin about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at Walmart, 2189 75th St. The 44-year-old Joliet woman placed the box in her car. She was cited on a charge of violating Darien's theft ordinance. She was given a court date and then released.

DUI

  • A 32-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 2 a.m. March 14 near Cass Avenue and 75th Street on charges of DUI, speeding, improper lane usage and driving with an expired registration. Police said an officer saw the man driving erratically, switching lanes without signaling and speeding. The man was given a court date and released.
  • A 62-year-old Downers Grove man was arrested about 7 p.m. Sunday at 75th Street and Exner Road on charges of DUI and failure to reduce speed. Police were called to a crash involving the man. The man said he and another driver were speeding. At some point, the man said he was forced to cross oncoming traffic and strike a traffic signal. The man smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. He was given a court date and released.
  • A 22-year-old New Lenox man was arrested about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 8100 block of Cass Avenue on charges of DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol and speeding. Police said an officer saw the man speeding. The officer reported the man smelled of alcohol and had a plastic cup with alcohol. The man was given a court date and released.

Damage

  • A woman told police that she found three scratches on her driver's side front fender after returning to her car about 9:30 a.m. March 15 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 8404 Cass Ave. A 64-year-old Darien man who lives in the 1100 block of 75th Street was charged with criminal property damage under a Darien ordinance. He was given a court date and then released.
