Many Darien Speeding Tickets Issued Here

DARIEN, IL – Don't be surprised if you get a speeding ticket on Oldfield Road in Darien.

Since March, police have issued 76 citations and 90 warnings on Oldfield, from North Frontage Road to Washington Street, according to the latest tallies.

Its officers have spent 73 hours in that time checking for speeders on that stretch of Oldfield, which is 25 mph. That works out to issuing one ticket or warning every 26 minutes.

This week, Darien police released their "Citizen Concern Summary," which details their traffic efforts in response to residents' complaints.

At Monday's City Council meeting, Darien Police Chief Greg Thomas said his department likes to get specific information about when violations are more likely to occur. That way, he said, its officers can have more effect.

In July, officers checked for those disobeying a traffic light on the closed portion of Clarendon Hills Road. Over 20 hours, officers issued 13 tickets and 91 warnings. That worked out to one ticket or warning every 12 minutes.

"They took a lot of action," Thomas said. "They were pretty busy there."
