Mayor Marchese Helps Celebrate a School Book Drive

City of Darien Mayor Joseph Marchese visited the Goddard School located in Darien, on Wednesday February 12, 2020, to help in the school’s Book Drive for Bernie’s Book Bank, and to share his life-long love of reading with the school’s Pre-K students.

Mayor Marchese explained what a Mayor does, discussed his life-long love of reading and how important books are, and read two books to the students in the school’s Pre-K classrooms. The students had lots of questions for the Mayor about his role as Mayor, and about the books he read to them. Mayor Marchese invited the students to visit him at City Hall, and the students invited the Mayor to visit again.

The Goddard School located in Darien, and all the Chicagoland Goddard Schools are, conducting their seventh Book Drive for Bernie’s Book Bank (https://www.berniesbookbank.org/), whose mission is to, “…significantly increase book ownership among at-risk infants, toddlers, and school-age children throughout Chicagoland.”

The Chicagoland Goddard Schools have donated over 200,000 children’s books to Bernie’s Book Bank over the past 7 years, with the Goddard School located at 8350 Lemont Road in Darien contributing over 27,000 to that total.
