Mower Stolen In Darien During Person's Break: Police

DARIEN, IL – In the last few days, Darien police handled cases involving theft, porch piracy, a hit-and-run crash, damage and retail theft. Here is information from the latest Darien police reports:

Theft

• A person was taking a break from cutting the grass and left the lawnmower unattended about 11 a.m. Oct. 11 in the 7700 block of Brookhaven Avenue. A witness saw a man steal the lawnmower from the property and load it into a truck bed. It was valued at $500.

Porch piracy

• Thefts of packages took place from Sept. 27 to Oct. 14 at Farmingdale Apartments, 7621 Sussex Creek Drive. Surveillance video shows a woman stealing packages or ripping them open and removing items.

Hit-and-run

• A semi-truck was seen on a surveillance camera turning around in a parking lot and hitting the cart corral, causing $10,000 in damage. The hit-and-run crash occurred about 7 a.m. Oct. 11 at Brookhaven Marketplace, 7516 Cass Ave. The incident was reported two days later.

Damage

• Between Friday and Monday, someone drove or pushed a golf cart into the pond at Carriage Greens Country Club, 8700 Carriage Greens Drive. The loss was estimated at $5,500.
• A car's window was damaged between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Oct. 11 at Snyder Insurance, 1021 75th St.
• An overturned grocery cart pressed up against a car resulted in damage to two car doors Thursday at Walmart, 2189 75th St.

Retail theft

• A 23-year-old Downers Grove man was cited about 9 p.m. Sunday at Walmart, 2189 75th St., on a charge of retail theft. An employee saw him under-ringing items in the self-checkout lane. The value of the items was $72.
• A 52-year-old Westmont woman was cited about 10:30 p.m. Sunday at Walmart, 2189 75th St., on a charge of retail theft. An employee saw the woman under-ringing items in the self-checkout lane.
