Our Lady of Peace School Honors First Responders

On Friday, September 9th, Our Lady of Peace School in Darien, Illinois spent their morning honoring our brave first responders.

The families at Our Lady of Peace School in Darien, Illinois are extremely grateful to the men and women who serve as first responders. On this solemn anniversary of the tragedies that occurred on September 11th, 2001, the students, staff, and members of the community honored our local heroes by remembering them during our Friday morning school Mass, and with a reception held afterward in the school.

Some of our guests had just finished their shifts, and some still had to begin their day, so our hard-working police, firemen, and EMT's were treated to a light breakfast that everyone hoped they enjoyed. To show the first responders how much they are appreciated, students created cards and wrote special messages on stars to hand to those attending. The children were so excited to meet real-life heroes.

All students were assigned a color to wear for the morning and the children lined up and created an American flag. While in formation, the students sang a beautiful rendition of "God Bless America". The event was captured from above and it looked amazing! A short video of the performance can be viewed on the school's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/OLOPSchool
