Victim In Darien Home Invasion Taken To Hospital: Police

DARIEN, IL – Darien officers responded to a home invasion about 2 p.m. Tuesday, seeing the getaway car, local police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, Police Chief Greg Thomas said in a late-afternoon message to Patch.

When police showed up, they saw the suspect fleeing in a vehicle, the chief said.

Officers pursued the vehicle to Bell Road and 143rd Street in Home Glen, Thomas said. That's about 10 miles from the reported home invasion.

"Assisting law enforcement agencies subsequently located the suspect at a residence, where the individual is currently contained," the chief said. "Officers are actively working to take the suspect into custody."

In Homer Glen, authorities described the suspect as barricaded on Maverick Trail. Residents on the street were asked to shelter in place.

Home invasions are rare in Darien and other suburbs.

In November 2019, such an invasion occurred in a Darien neighborhood. A Chicago man was later convicted and sentenced to 31 years in prison.
