Darien Home Invasion Suspect Arrested After Hours Of Negotiations: Cops

DARIEN, IL – Darien police said early Wednesday morning that a home invasion suspect was arrested after several hours of negotiations.

The suspect's name was not released.

The home invasion occurred about 2 p.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of Sequoia Lane, police said.

Officers, who saw a fleeing car, pursued the suspect, but ended the chase near Bell Road and 143rd Street in Homer Glen after losing sight of the vehicle, police said. That's about 10 miles south of Darien.

Shortly after, police said law enforcement found the man entering a home in the 13000 block of Maverick Trail.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, but was later released, police said.

About 8:45 p.m., Darien police reported that a multi-agency DuPage County SWAT team, a crisis negotiation team and the Will County Sheriff's Office were working to take the suspect into custody peacefully.

After several hours, they were able to do so without any problems, police said.

In a news release, Darien police said law enforcement's coordinated efforts contributed to a "safe resolution of a dangerous situation while protecting both the public and responding personnel."

Home invasions are rare in Darien and other suburbs.

In November 2019, such an invasion occurred in a Darien neighborhood. A Chicago man was later convicted and sentenced to 31 years in prison.
