Retail Theft, DUIs: Darien Cops

In one case, a man distracted a store clerk before stealing cigarettes, police said.

DARIEN, IL – Darien police released their latest blotter Thursday. Here is information from the latest Darien police reports:

Retail theft

  • A man was seen on video stealing two cartons of Newport cigarettes about 10 a.m. Feb. 1 at Speedway gas station, 7502 Cass Ave. The man distracted the clerk and left the station without paying. The cartons were priced at $183.
  • Monica Jaworksi, age unavailable, of Westmont, was cited shortly after midnight Saturday at Walmart, 2189 75th St., on a charge of retail theft. According to a police report, she was under-scanning items in the self-checkout aisle. She was released and given a date to appear in court.

DUI

  • Michael Hernandez, 33, of Alsip, was arrested about 11 a.m. Feb. 2 near Darien Pantry, 737 Plainfield Road, on a charge of DUI. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Adam Boomsma, 27, of Brookfield, was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Friday on charges of DUI and speeding. According to a police report, Boomsma was speeding 79 mph in a 45 mph zone. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Jesse Medina, 34, of Lemont, was arrested about 3:30 a.m. Sunday on charges of DUI and improper lane usage. According to a police report, Medina’s car was found in a ditch south of 75th Street. He was released and given a date to appear in court.

Driving violations

  • Edmond Brand, 35, of Willowbrook, was cited about 10 a.m. Friday at Walmart on a charge of driving with a suspended license. He was warned about disobeying a traffic control device.

Warrants

  • Anthony Scott, 22, of Bolingbrook, was arrested about 7 p.m. Friday on Cass Avenue on three warrants charging failure to appear. According to a police report, he was clocked speeding 60 mph in a 40 mph zone. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
