SEASPAR Volleyball Team Takes Gold At Fall Games

The Fall Games is one of nine state sports competitions and more than 700 athletes competed in the event.

DARIEN, IL – The Spartans Blue Volleyball Team trained by the South East Association for Special Parks And Recreation (SEASPAR) earned a gold medal at the Special Olympics Illinois Fall Games in Rockford on Oct. 20-21. According to SEASPAR, the Fall Games is one of nine state sports competitions and more than 700 athletes competed in the event.

Both of SEASPAR’s Spartans Volleyball teams qualified to compete at the Fall Games. SEASPAR said the Spartans Blue Team earned the gold medal in Division 7, and the Spartans White Team earned the silver medal in Division 2.

The Division 7 Spartans Blue team competitors were Michele Forzley and Wayne Neumann of Westmont, Jeff Osowski and David Svitak of Downers Grove, Tyler Reineke of La Grange Park, Christina Schutz of Darien, and Samantha Wagner and Jeff Wiemerslage of Woodridge. Teammate JoAnn Adamski of Downers Grove did not compete.

The Division 2 Spartans White team competitors were Mark Buglio, Adam Sikora, and Molly Sosnowski of Lisle, Anna Cavallo of Downers Grove, Sarah Cavanaugh and Melissa Engelhardt of La Grange Park, Nate Church of La Grange, and Erin Mannix of Westmont. Teammate Ben Sojka of Lisle did not compete.

SEASPAR said it trains athletes for Special Olympics competitions in Alpine Skiing, Athletics (track and field), Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Flag Football, Floor Hockey, Golf, Gymnastics, Powerlifting, Soccer, Softball, Snowshoeing, Swimming, Tennis and Volleyball. SEASPAR’s athletes compete in Special Olympics events throughout the year.
