Self-Checkout Theft, Golf Carts Stolen: Darien Cops
Police respond to two incidents in which people are seen bypassing the scanner in the self-checkout, report says.
DARIEN, IL — In the last few days, Darien police have handled cases involving retail theft, theft of golf carts and tire damage. Here is information from the reports:
Self-checkout theft
- A theft was reported about 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at Walmart, 2189 75th Street. The store manager said a man was seen taking a number of electronics items to the checkout line and scanning low-priced food items while bypassing the electronics. The man left in a silver and blue sedan with front end damage and no plates, heading east on 75th Street.
- Juan Allegria-Gonzales, 29, of Woodridge, was cited about 3:30 p.m. Dec. 10 on a charge of retail theft. According to a police report, he left the store with three items that were not scanned in the checkout aisle. The items were worth $98. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
Golf cart theft

- Two Harley-Davidson golf carts on a trailer were stolen between 3 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Sunday in the 8400 block of Wilmette Avenue. The loss is estimated at $2,300.
Damage
- Someone punctured a driver's side tire on a car between 8 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Dec. 10 in the 7200 block of Summit Road.

- Anthony Tantillo, 49, of Darien, was cited at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at 71st and Bentley Avenue on charges of driving with a suspended license and disobeying a stop sign. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
- Terrence Dorsey, 27, of Chicago, was cited about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 7 on 75th Street on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
- Davonte Brough, 26, of Chicago, was cited about 12:30 a.m. Friday in the 7300 block of Cass Avenue on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. He was stopped after being clocked speeding 60 mph in a 40 mph zone. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
Marijuana
- Ibrahim Saylawala, 19, and Hasssan Ali, 20, both of Darien, were cited about 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9 in the 2300 block of Oakmont Way on charges of possession of marijuana by a person under 21. An officer said he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from their car. The suspects were released and given a date to appear in court.
