Slightly More New Virus Cases In Darien: County
The number of total coronavirus deaths in Darien remained the same in the last week.
DARIEN, IL — Darien saw a slight increase in new coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department. The recent numbers are down from early August.
As of Sunday, Darien had seen 1,988 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 20 in the last week. The week before last, the city experienced 17 new cases.
The city's number of coronavirus deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 24. The last two local coronavirus deaths were in September. The deaths work out to about a thousandth of Darien's population.

As of Sunday, Darien had 92 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, better than its neighbors. The figure compares to 99 in La Grange Park, 104 in DuPage County, 105 in Hinsdale, 107 in Elmhurst, 112 in Western Springs, 113 in Clarendon Hills, 114 in suburban Cook County, 116 in Burr Ridge and 133 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,630,864, up 1.1 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 25,017.
Nationally, 43.5 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 1.8 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 698,672 people have died from the virus in the United States.
