Speedway Gas Leak: Illinois Attorney General Files Lawsuit
The Speedway gas station was involved in a gas leak that caused several home explosions.

DARIEN, IL — The saga of the Speedway gas leak that cause several home explosions last month isn't over yet as several area residents remain displaced from their homes. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and DuPage County State's Attorney General Robert Berlin filed a lawsuit against the Speedway at 6241 S. Cass that requests the gas station stay closed and perform air monitoring to the surrounding home and sewer systems to confront contamination issues.
The matter was passed to Madigan by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in an effort to potentially prosecute Speedway for the pervasive Oct. gas leak that caused 10 home fires and explosions and forced hundreds of residents from their homes. Nearly a dozen residents are still unable to return to their homes, Chicago Tribune reports.
The lawsuit proposes civil penalties for Speedway and asks the gas station to take additional measures to ensure the safety of residents by investigating potential contamination to soil and water in the vicinity.
