Store's Deposits Shorted, DUI: Darien Cops

Business sees a pattern of shorted deposits over several weeks, police say.

DARIEN, IL — The Darien Police Department released its latest blotter. Here is information from the police reports:

Deposits Shorted

  • AutoZone, 7516 Cass Ave., reported a pattern of shorted deposits dating back to Nov. 30. The total lost was $2,702. On Dec. 31, the store first became aware of the problem when a deposit was short $137.

DUI

  • Oscar Plata, 29, of Plainfield, was arrested about 8 p.m. Saturday in the 8400 block of Beller Road on charges of DUI, driving with a revoked license, unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver, leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to an attended vehicle, improper lane usage, and not driving on the right side of a four-lane road. He was taken to the Will County Jail for a warrant in that county.

Retail theft

  • Ricah Church, 28, of Woodridge, was cited about 4 p.m. Friday at Walmart, 2189 75th St., on a charge of retail theft. According to a police report, Church was seen at the self-checkout putting items in bags without scanning them. The suspect was released and given a date to appear in court.

  • Trumaine Lyles, 30, of Maywood, was cited shortly before 8 p.m. Jan. 26 at Lemont Road and 83rd Street on charges of driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle while using an electronic communications device. She was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Shamkant Sheth, 73, of Lemont, was arrested about 2 p.m. Thursday in the 8400 block of Lemont Road on a warrant and cited on a charge of speeding. He was going 60 mph in a 40 mph zone.
  • Jasmine Robinson, 28, of Chicago, was cited about 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 8100 block of Cass Avenue on charges of driving with a suspended license and speeding. She was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Hassan Elmatari, 33, of Tinley Park, was cited about 5 p.m. Saturday on charges of driving with a suspended license and unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver. Police came into contact with Elmatari when they saw his car disabled on northbound Interstate 55 near Cass Avenue. He was released and given a date to appear in court.

Warrant

  • Tierra Cox, 33, of Chicago, was arrested at 2 p.m. Jan. 25 on a Lake County, Ind., warrant charging fraud.
