Suspicious Man Offers Ride, Follows Girl From Downers Grove: Cops

The suspect honked at the girl, made inappropriate comments and offered her a ride, police said.

DARIEN, IL — A man followed a young girl home from Lakeview Junior High School on May 7, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office said in a release. Police received a report that the girl was walking west on Plainfield Road west of the school when a man began honking his horn at her as he drove westbound on Plainfield Road.

The man is described as Hispanic, 30 to 40 years old, with scruffy facial hair and wearing a baseball hat. Police said the girl turned south onto Lakeside Drive and the man drove next to her, began making inappropriate comments and offered her a ride. As the girl approached Cambridge Court, the van began to slow down so she used her cellphone to call her family, and the man pulled away.

Police said the car was described as an older model dark green passenger van with windows on the side that appeared rusty.
