DARIEN, IL — Darien Police have taken three reports over the last month that occurred during the exchange of merchandise after an internet sale. Police said two were thefts and one was an armed robbery.
These sales were arranged on sites like 5 Mile and Let Go with a meeting location in a parking lot in Darien. According to police, the meeting would occur, the cash and items were exchanged, and the victim would later check the items purchased only to find out the items were junk and not what the agreed sale was for.
Police said the armed robbery occurred because the victim knew right away the items were junk and refused to pay the cash, at which point the suspect displayed a weapon demanding the cash. These cases are all under investigation.
