Western Springs Resident Scammed Out Of $14,000: Police

Resident was seeking a refund from a company because of dissatisfaction with its product.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — A Western Springs resident was hoping to get a $750 refund as the result of the dissatisfaction with software, but ended up with a loss of much more than that, according to a police report. The incident was reported over the weekend.

The resident, who lives in the 1400 block of Walnut Street, told police that a software company deposited $9,000 into the resident's bank account, far more than the $750 refund sought, the report said.

The company then asked the resident to wire money from the account to make up for the over-refund, police said. The resident complied, but the company said the first wire transfer was rejected. So the resident tried again.
