What Fired Hinsdale South Band Teacher Received

A teacher sued in federal court alleging the district discriminated against him.

HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale South High School's former band director is set to receive $60,000 in return for dropping a federal discrimination lawsuit.

Late last week, Patch obtained the settlement agreement between Kirk Hickman and Hinsdale High School District 86.

The agreement includes a confidentiality clause in which the parties are barred from disclosing the terms except to their lawyers, immediate family and tax advisers.

The school can also release the agreement in response to the public's requests under the Freedom of Information Act.

The pact bars either side from disparaging the other. This does not prohibit anyone from disclosing facts.

According to district records, Hickman's final salary was $78,332.

A previous Patch story included Hickman's arguments for suing. He was fired in March 2022.
