Woman Escapes Attempted Carjacking Near Darien Unharmed: Cops

Men approach woman while she is starting her car, brandishing a gun, police say.

WOODRIDGE, IL — A woman escaped an attempted armed robbery and carjacking Wednesday afternoon in Woodridge, about a mile west of Darien, police said.

About 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, a woman was starting her car in the 8200 block of Carolwood Lane when two men approached, according to a Woodridge police news release. One man stayed farther back, while the other moved toward her, brandishing what appeared to be a black handgun and demanding her purse, police said.

The woman escaped unharmed and called 911, according to the news release. Both men were last seen running south on Carolwood Lane. The release did not indicate whether the woman gave her purse. Police called it an attempted carjacking, but did not say whether the men tried to get the car.

Both men were described as black, about 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and between 19 and 28. They wore full ski masks and winter coats, police said.
