Woman Inside During Darien Attempted Burglary: Official
An alderman urges residents to keep their outdoor lights on and have security cameras.

DARIEN, IL – A woman in her 20s was inside a house in Darien when someone apparently attempted a burglary over the weekend, an official said.
At Tuesday's City Council meeting, Darien Alderman Eric Gustafson said a large black SUV backed into a driveway Saturday night on Woodvale Avenue.
Someone then banged on the door and the windows, in an apparent attempt to get into the home, Gustafson said. The person broke into the screened-in porch, he said.

"They must have seen that there was someone in the home, and they did take off," Gustafson said.
Gustafson said he spent an hour speaking with the family at their house Monday. He said he didn't think the woman had the outside lights on during the attempted burglary.

He suggested residents keep their outside lights on all night and get security cameras.
"If you have a dog, great," Gustafson said. "I have a motion camera in the front and the back. I keep my lights on all night. And frankly, I've got a gun, so I think I'm well-prepared for what potentially could happen. People have to get ready. This is everywhere."
