1. Decatur City Council hears concerns over Oasis suspension, cuts Millikin renovation bonds (wandtv.com) — Decatur residents are raising concerns after services were suspended at the Oasis Day Center, leaving people experiencing homelessness without basic daytime support while Heritage Behavioral Health reviews operations. At the same meeting, City Council sharply reduced previously approved bonds for Millikin University renovations from $53 million to $18 million, though leaders say taxpayers won't bear the cost.
2. Powers Mansion in Decatur sold; future event venue planned (wcia.com) — Decatur's City Council has approved converting the historic Powers Mansion into a future event venue, giving the 1909 estate a new purpose while addressing its significant repair needs. A buyer has already been found, but renovations mean it will likely be several years before residents can book events there.
3. Explosive offense leads MacArthur to 6-1 start (wcia.com) — MacArthur High School's football team in Decatur has raced to a 6-1 record behind an offense averaging more than 42 points per game. Senior playmaker Damonte' Phillips and junior quarterback Antonio Young are leading the Generals into week eight, aiming for their most wins in a season since 2018 in a key matchup against Springfield.
4. Trunk-or-Treats and Halloween events happening across central Illinois (newschannel20.com) — Families in Decatur have a full slate of Halloween fun coming up, with Boo at the Zoo at Scovill Zoo on multiple dates and several trunk-or-treats at local churches and the YMCA. The schedule lays out times and locations so you can plan costume outings, candy runs, and kid-friendly evenings throughout the second half of October.
5. Domestic violence families, survivors, advocates honored (herald-review.com) — Decatur residents gathered at First Evangelical Lutheran Church to honor domestic violence victims, survivors, families and advocates during an annual candlelighting service.
