Decatur firefighters respond to two house fires overnight (wcia.com) β Two separate house fires overnight in Decatur heavily damaged homes on West Grand Avenue and East Main Street, but no injuries were reported. Fire crews faced intense flames and smoke at both scenes, calling in an extra engine for support at the second fire. The American Red Cross is now helping the displaced resident.

Decatur Fire Department hosting student demonstrations for Fire Prevention Month (wcia.com) β Decatur students are getting hands-on fire safety lessons this month at Fire Station 1, including practicing home exit drills and learning about lithium-ion battery safety. Firefighters say the goal is to make kids comfortable with their gear and help families create clear home escape plans. More student groups will visit throughout October for similar demonstrations.

Residents encouraged to participate in community health survey for Macon and Moultrie counties (maconreporter.com) β Residents in and around Decatur are being asked by HSHS St. Mary's and Decatur Memorial Hospital to complete a Community Health Survey open through Oct. 31, helping shape future services. Feedback will guide programs on cancer screening, social support, and other priorities affecting Macon and Moultrie county communities, including how local hospitals invest in care close to home.
