'109 Gives Back Food & Supply Drive' Returns, Benefits Pantry
The second annual drive by Deerfield School District 109 runs through Friday, and Nov. 8 through Nov. 10.
DEERFIELD, IL — The West Deerfield Township Food Pantry needs some help and Deerfield District 109 is more than happy to oblige. The second annual "109 Gives Back Food & Supply Drive" runs Monday through Friday, and Nov. 8 through Nov. 10 next week.
Students, staff, and community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable items to help those in need for the upcoming holiday season. The district has set a goal of collecting 5,000 items over the course of the eight-day drive, according to a news release. Bins will be located inside the front entrance of all six DPS 109 buildings and inside the District Office.
Food and supplies are slated to be delivered to the food pantry the week of Nov. 15.

“There’s such an ingrained culture of philanthropy and giving across this district. We are excited to see the difference we can make in the lives of others when we all come together for a common cause,” said Mike Simeck, superintendent of schools, in the news release. “We have enlisted our student councils at the middle schools, leadership teams at our elementary schools, and our PTOs to help spread the word.”
In order to provide the greatest variety of goods to the food pantry, each school has been given a list of items to focus on. However, all non-perishable donations will be accepted. Monetary donations directly to the West Deerfield Township Food Pantry will also be accepted.
