2017 Deerfield Crimes, Crashes Fall To 5-Year Lows

The Deerfield Police Department released its semi-annual report showing a decline in tickets, traffic crashes and many other crimes.

DEERFIELD, IL — The Deerfield Police Department released its semi-annual report at a Village Board meeting last month, showing the lowest number of reported thefts, instances of criminal damage and traffic collisions in five years. According to police, Deerfield also has maintained a relatively low number of burglaries compared to its neighbors.

Some crimes are up compared to the same period last year. There have been three auto thefts, up from 0 last year, although there were also three cars stolen in the same period back in 2015.

So far in 2017, there have been zero reported robberies, one reported sexual assault and two reported felony assault and batteries, all relatively stable compared to prior years.

DUI arrests have dropped 38 percent to 16 from 26 and overall tickets are down significantly, falling nearly 28 percent from 1,895 to 1,368.

While most crimes are down, the number of calls for service handled by the department is up from January 2017 to June 2017:
