4th Of July Traffic Safety Campaign Results Out: Lake County Sheriff
The traffic safety campaign was conducted from June 16 through July 5.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — You may have seen an increase in police patrols throughout Lake County during the recent Fourth of July holiday season. As part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," "Drive High Get a DUI," and "Click It Or Ticket" safety campaigns, more officers were on the road from June 16 through July 5.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, 35 citations were handed out, including:
- 19 citations for speeding
- 13 citations for seat belt violations
- 3 citations for other traffic violations
The LCSO took part in an effort across Illinois that included 200 other state and local law enforcement agencies. Police said the campaign is intended to "get drunk and drugged drivers off our roads, encourage seat belt use, and enforce speeding and other traffic laws."

The effort is funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The campaign featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities including a media campaign titled, "It's Not a Game," according to police.
