The group hit up gas stations in Riverwoods and Lincolnshire early Tuesday morning, according to police.
RIVERWOODS, IL — Five suspects in two separate burglaries at gas stations early Tuesday morning are in custody, according to Riverwoods Police Chief Bruce Dayno. The group were able to steal cash and merchandise from the two locations, but an attempt to move an ATM machine at one gas station was unsuccessful.
Police responded to a burglar alarm at 3:06 a.m. at the Mobil Gas station at Deerfield Road and Saunders Road. They found entry had been gained through a broken window. Security video showed multiple suspects making entry after arriving in a gray Jeep and removing cash and merchandise. While inside, the suspects attempted to move the ATM machine without success.
While officers were still at the scene, they were made aware of a burglary in progress at a gas station in Lincolnshire involving a recently reported stolen gray Jeep that left the scene southbound on Milwaukee Avenue. The car was tracked by multiple agencies to the 4700 block of N. Sacramento Avenue in Chicago, where five suspects were taken into custody.
