Mother Earth Market Returns To Brushwood Center In Riverwoods

RIVERWOODS, IL — Brushwood Center will host its annual Mother Earth Market on May 9 and 10, a spring and Mother's Day weekend event featuring local artists, makers, vendors and organizations focused on sustainability.

The free public market will be held at Brushwood Center, 21850 N. Riverwoods Road, Riverwoods, with hours set for from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

According to Brushwood Center, the market celebrates people and groups “who are inspired by Mother Earth and working toward a more sustainable future.” The event will feature more than 35 local artists and vendors and a range of nature-inspired arts and crafts.

“We’re so excited for the return of our spring market,” says Julia Kemerer, Director of Arts and Administration at Brushwood Center. “It’s such a great weekend to get outside and support local artists.”

This year’s Mother Earth Market will also mark a transition point for the organization. Brushwood Center said it will be the last public event at Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods before the site closes for renovation in the summer.

The organization is in the final stages of fundraising for ACTIVATE: A Campaign for Investment in Community, a $10 million comprehensive campaign to expand programs and improve its facility, according to the announcement.

As Brushwood Center prepares for summer construction, the market will also include an art and craft supply clearance sale at the Brushwood Art Supply Exchange, or BASE. Brushwood Center describes BASE as a creative reuse center where unwanted art and craft supplies can be reused instead of sent to landfills.

Members of the public can buy materials and tools there at very low cost, according to Brushwood Center. BASE is also free to educators and nonprofit community partners.

“If you’re looking for summer activities while your kids are home from school, planning projects for summer camp, or planning to do some artwork or crafts this season, don’t miss this opportunity to stock up before BASE closes for the season,” says Kemerer.
