• Recalls: September 3, 2026 (beehiiv.com) — A nationwide recall list includes 17 injectable drugs from Baxter Healthcare, whose corporate address is in Deerfield, potentially affecting medications used in hospitals and clinics. The report also details other current FDA and NHTSA recalls, from frozen desserts and specialty foods to veterinary treatments, CT scanners, and thyroid medications, with varying health risks and statuses.
• State investigating Essendant, century-old office supply firm, for layoffs that may have violated WARN Act (chicagotribune.com) — Illinois is investigating whether Essendant's recent mass layoffs, affecting hundreds of workers, violated the state's WARN Act notice rules. The company, which once based its headquarters in Deerfield and was later tied to Deerfield-based Walgreens through private equity ownership, is closing facilities and may owe back pay and penalties if violations are confirmed.
