Appliance Catches Fire In Basement Of Deerfield House: Battalion Chief
The cause and cost of the Tuesday morning fire is still under investigation.

UNINCORPORATED DEERFIELD, IL — An appliance caught fire in the basement of a home Tuesday morning in unincorporated Deerfield. There were no injuries, but the home is currently not occupiable, according to the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire District.
Firefighters responded to the 400 block of Swan Boulevard at around 8 a.m. for a report of smoke in the building. Emergency crews were notified of one occupant who reported smoke in his home and would be meeting crews outside.
Upon arrival, emergency crews said the smoke was visible, and as the first arriving companies entered the occupancy, they reported a working fire in the basement. The alarm was upgraded, and the primary search and fire attack began.

Crews found an appliance fire in the basement and had water on the fire within seven minutes of arrival, according to officials. The fire was contained in the basement. The cause and cost of the fire is still under investigation.
Lincolnshire-Riverwoods was assisted by the Wheeling, Northbrook, Deerfield, Highland Park, Long Grove, and Lake Zurich fire departments.
